Raw Dog Food - Should You Feed Your Dog Raw Dog Food? Is it
Safe?
If you have dogs you probably have noticed a lot of recalls of dog food in the past year or two.
Kind of scary isn't it? I would be worried if I didn't feed my dog raw food. You may have read about this and
wondered if you should switch to raw dog food.
Well it's your decision of course, and one you should not take lightly. For your own peace of mind I recommend
doing some research to make sure you are not going in blindly. I've fed completely raw and I've fed raw food mixers
which is what I feed now. Both work quite well. With the mix, you simply add raw meat to it and you know it is a
balanced diet. If you are going to feed straight raw you need to be a bit more careful and make sure you don't get
the bone to meat ratio too far off. It's not necessary to have it exact down to a science but just be sure to mix
in some organ meat and not feed way more bone than meat.
It is perfectly safe for your dogs to eat raw meat. Their stomachs are much more acidic than humans, and things
that would cause a problem with us will not harm a dog in the least. Think of how often your dog will dig up
something he has buried and eat it with no problems at all.
I for one would not go back to kibble, as I feel that my dogs are in superb health. I'm also wary of kibble
because of all the dog food recalls. I am not sure anymore which companies you can trust. I also like to be able to
see exactly what is in the food I am feeding my dogs.
Raw dog food is a great idea and if you would like to improve your dog's health you should give it a try.
Note: If you are squeamish and want to go half and half you can go with Sojos which is a raw food mix. Everything is already in the food
except you just toss in some raw ground meat. If you are REALLY unsure, you can even cook the ground meat if you
wish.
