Dog Food for Dogs With Allergies
Most people, when confronted with an allergy in their dog, immediately assume the dog food is to
blame and proceed to change it. While it is possible the food is the culprit, remember that there can be many
other reasons for allergies in dogs such as environmental allergies (yes, just like us humans), allergies to
vaccines, allergies to heartworm preventative, and even allergies to other pets such as cats.
So be sure to consider these causes as well. But for the purpose of this article, let's just go ahead and assume
your pet has food-related problems. What then is a good dog food for dogs with allergies?
Don't automatically assume corn is the problem. Many people think they must find a food with no corn. Usually
the problem is not necessarily one grain or another but processed grains in general.
Look for a food that is not overly processed. This will rule out all kibbles but still leaves you
with a large selection nonetheless. One great food to consider is Sojos, which is made of natural ingredients which you add meat and
(optionally) veggies to. There are no fillers, and you can choose to buy the grain-free version if you wish
or the new complete version which contains meat already mixed in. I personally use Sojos myself and have for
many years, and my dogs are in perfect health. Plus they love it.
Other foods to consider for dogs with allergies are Honest Kitchen, Grandma Lucy's, Dr. Harvey's, and Steve's Real Food to name a few. These types of foods should help to clear up
your dog's allergies as they don't contain all the processed food and filler that most kibbles do.
Another thing that has helped my dogs is feeding them raw milk. If you can obtain the raw milk from a local cow which has been
eating native grasses and pollens, your dog (and you too) will benefit allergy-wise from drinking the
unpasteurized milk.
Alternatively, you can choose to make your own homemade dog food.
